Key Points
For the past 20 years, My Paleo Pet (formerly Fiesta Pet Deli) in Pompano Beach has challenged conventional thinking about pet nutrition with one guiding belief: health begins with what we feed our pets.
As CEO of My Paleo Pet in Pompano Beach, Florida, and founder of Fiesta Pet Deli, Bill Piechocki has spent decades advocating for species-appropriate nutrition, minimally processed foods, and educating pet owners about the connection between diet and overall wellness. His philosophy has remained remarkably consistent, even as fresh and raw pet foods have become far more mainstream.
Here’s his story, in his own words and through the experiences that shaped his mission.
A Lifetime Fascinated by Nature
As I reflect on nearly sixty years working in animal and pet health, I have to admit that the last twenty years have been an incredible journey.
I’ve always been fascinated by the perfection of nature. Plants and animals exist within balanced ecosystems, each species playing its own role without human interference. Watching how nature works inspired me to better understand life itself.
I also became fascinated with physiology. How do countless individual cells come together to create living organisms? How do those systems work together to sustain life? Those questions have driven my curiosity throughout my career.
Learning That Food Matters
One lesson has stayed with me through every stage of life: you are what you eat.
Growing up during the 1950s and 1960s in a large working-class family, convenience foods weren’t the norm. Feeding our family required planning, hard work, and making the most of every harvest.
My mother stayed home to care for our family while my father often worked multiple jobs to support us. Harvest season meant canning vegetables, freezing food, and preserving what we could. I also learned to hunt and provide clean sources of protein for our family.
Those experiences shaped how I think about nutrition today.
Turning a Vision Into Reality
After earning my degree in animal nutrition and building a career in the pet industry, I launched Fiesta Pet Deli in March 2006.
The concept was different from what most retailers had seen. I presented the idea to many of the largest companies in the pet food industry and was repeatedly told it would never succeed.
Today, nearly twenty years later, fresh and minimally processed pet foods have become far more common, and many companies promote ideas that once seemed unconventional.
Why Nutrition Is at the Center of Health
Health begins with what we allow into our bodies.
While we have limited control over the air we breathe or the water available to us, we can take steps to improve both. Nutrition is another essential part of that equation.
My passion has always been real food for pets, and for people as well.
I believe in clean, naturally raised foods produced with careful attention to quality and sustainability. Rather than following nutrition trends or short-term fads, I believe pets thrive when they’re fed foods that align with their biological needs.
The Philosophy Behind My Paleo Pet
Fiesta Pet Deli and My Paleo Pet were built around a simple philosophy: Real Food for Pets.
When we first opened, very few people were talking about biologically appropriate nutrition for companion animals.
Many people recognized the phrase, “Let food be thy medicine,” but fewer understood how herbs, botanicals, and whole foods could work together as part of everyday nutrition rather than simply being viewed as supplements.
Every ingredient we choose, whether it’s a protein, herb, botanical, or functional blend, serves a purpose. We believe each one contributes to supporting overall health and deserves to be understood rather than simply added to a recipe.
Our goal has always been to help pet owners understand not just what goes into our foods, but why.
Education Has Always Been Part of the Mission
Helping people understand pet nutrition has always been just as important as making the food itself.
Every day brings new challenges, from marketing claims to confusing nutrition advice that can make it difficult for pet owners to separate facts from advertising.
That’s why we’ve continued sharing educational articles for more than two decades while expanding those conversations through the Pet Health Café radio show and podcast.
We don’t expect to win every battle, but if we can help even one pet live a healthier, happier life, the effort is worthwhile.
A Local Business with a Lasting Mission
Today, My Paleo Pet continues to serve pet owners from its home in Pompano Beach, where my team and I remain committed to educating families about nutrition and providing thoughtfully prepared foods for dogs and cats. While we’ve earned customers well beyond South Florida, our roots remain firmly planted in the local pet community.
We’re proud to be part of a region where pet owners are increasingly interested in giving their companions the healthiest lives possible, and we’re grateful to be part of that conversation.
Looking Ahead
Our journey continues.
We’re committed to learning more about how nutrition, clean food, and thoughtful choices can support healthier lives for pets and the people who love them.
Most importantly, our mission has always been about serving those who cannot speak for themselves.
To everyone who has trusted us, supported our mission, and allowed us to care for your pets, thank you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is species-appropriate nutrition?
Species-appropriate nutrition is the idea that pets should be fed foods that closely resemble the types of foods their bodies evolved to eat. Nutritional needs vary between species, so pet owners should work with their veterinarian when choosing an appropriate diet.
What is My Paleo Pet?
My Paleo Pet is a Pompano Beach, Florida-based pet nutrition company founded by Bill Piechocki that focuses on fresh, minimally processed pet foods and species-appropriate nutrition.
What is Fiesta Pet Deli?
Fiesta Pet Deli is the commercial pet deli founded by Bill Piechocki in 2006, built around the philosophy of providing “Real Food for Pets.”
Why do some pet owners choose fresh or raw foods?
Some pet owners prefer fresh or raw foods because they believe these diets are closer to a pet’s natural nutrition. Because every pet has unique nutritional needs and some diets may not be appropriate for every animal, owners should consult their veterinarian before making significant dietary changes.
