It is a tale as old as time. As people and habits change so does society. And after all, these are modern times, and modern times deserve modern conveniences.

Yes, yes, dog parks are fantastic places for our dogs to go to roam free and burn off some energy, however, dog parks are…less than a lively space for us humans. While dog-friendly restaurants and pubs are superb for a nice afternoon out, they certainly do not provide the entertainment that our dogs would love to enjoy, alas, dogs and humans continue the give and take.

Of course, what if there was a place where Fido could roam free and humans could enjoy a drink and a little camaraderie? Well, now there is! And it’s in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale! BarkYard n’ Brews, enter stage left.

Owners Rob Kennish and his wife, Stacey, met Russell Knutson about six years ago at a dog park. Together, with their Great Danes, they’d frequent hot spots that served beer with patios and outside eating areas; however, something was missing.

“We were frustrated that we couldn’t go to a bar and have drinks while having our dogs off the leash,” explains Kennish. It was there that they hatched a plan to create a space that would serve as the best of both worlds for both dogs AND humans!

In July 2021, together they opened Florida’s premiere leash-free dog park and beer garden named BarkYard n’ Brews in downtown Fort Lauderdale. BarkYard n’ Brews offers a safe and fun environment for your pups to enjoy. In the 10,000 square feet, outdoor, fenced-in, astroturfed play area your canine can enjoy a splash pad and agility equipment!

Experienced dog monitors or, “Wooferies” walk around the park to assist all patrons. Wooferies are trained to monitor the dogs’ behavior and are there to maintain a safe, friendly environment.

Membership is required for all dog patrons. Your monthly or annual membership helps to ensure all dogs are healthy, up to date with vaccines, and friendly and non-aggressive. They also offer Daily Dog Passes.

“We also welcome dog parents and non-dog parents alike of legal age to come and enjoy our beer garden with rotating local craft, domestic, and imported beers on tap, bottle, and can. Our beer garden also serves wine, Italian specialty coffees, and fountain sodas. There is something for everyone to enjoy.” Kennish said. You don’t have to bring a dog, you just have to like them!

“Additionally, in our Beer Garden or inside area you can enjoy a bite to eat from our food vendor, order food to be delivered, peruse healthy dog food and treats, or inquire at the front desk about our party packages, agility training, doggie yoga, or special events that we hold for the pleasure of you and your best friend.”
