About Hollywood Dog Beach

Hollywood Dog Beach in Hollywood, Florida

Hollywood Dog Beach gives dogs their own stretch of sand and ocean along Hollywood Beach. Located between the Pershing Street and Custer Street lifeguard stands, this designated dog-friendly beach is one of the few places along the Broward County coastline where dogs can enjoy the sand and surf.

Even better for local dog owners, Hollywood Dog Beach is free and no pass is required. The beach is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.

Hollywood Dog Beach Location

Hollywood Dog Beach is located at:

4999 N Surf Rd
Hollywood, FL 33020

The designated dog beach runs between the Pershing Street and Custer Street lifeguard stands, north of the main Hollywood Beach Broadwalk area. Street parking is available nearby.

Dogs are only permitted on this designated section of Hollywood Beach. Outside the dog beach area, dogs are not allowed on the regular beach.

Hollywood Dog Beach Hours

Hollywood Dog Beach is currently open:

Monday through Sunday: Sunrise to Sunset

The City of Hollywood no longer limits dog beach access to certain weekend hours.

Is Hollywood Dog Beach Free?

Yes. Hollywood Dog Beach is free to use and no dog beach pass is required.

The City of Hollywood eliminated its previous daily and six-month dog beach passes and associated fees. Visitors can now use the designated dog beach without purchasing a permit.

This is important because you may still find older websites showing resident and non-resident dog beach fees. Those requirements are no longer part of the City’s current dog beach rules.

Can Dogs Be Off Leash at Hollywood Dog Beach?

Dogs at Hollywood Dog Beach must be on a leash or under voice command while inside the designated dog beach area. Owners are responsible for controlling their dogs at all times.

Once outside the designated dog beach, dogs must be leashed.

Hollywood Dog Beach Rules

Before heading to the beach with your pup, keep these City of Hollywood rules in mind:

  • Dogs must have a current rabies tag.
  • Owners must maintain control of their dogs at all times.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs.
  • Dogs must be leashed outside the designated dog beach.
  • Sick dogs, aggressive dogs and dogs in heat are prohibited.
  • Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited.
  • Park Rangers and lifeguards may require a person or dog to leave the beach.
  • Visitors should immediately leave the beach if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

What to Know Before You Go

Hollywood Dog Beach is an actual oceanfront dog beach, so your dog can enjoy both the sand and the Atlantic Ocean within the designated area.

There is little natural shade directly on the beach, so South Florida heat is worth planning around. Early mornings and later afternoons are usually more comfortable for dogs, especially during the summer.

Bring fresh drinking water, a bowl, waste bags and a leash. Even though dogs can be under voice command within the dog beach, you’ll need the leash when entering, leaving or walking elsewhere around Hollywood Beach.

Is Hollywood Beach Dog Friendly?

Most of Hollywood Beach does not allow dogs on the sand. The exception is Hollywood Dog Beach between the Pershing and Custer Street lifeguard stands.

So if you’re searching for a dog-friendly beach in Hollywood, Florida, make sure you enter through the designated Hollywood Dog Beach area rather than another section of the beach.

Pet Junction Tip

If your dog loves the ocean, Hollywood Dog Beach is one of the easiest South Florida dog beaches to visit now that there are no admission fees, no permit and no restricted weekend-only schedule.

Going early is especially worthwhile in warmer months when the sand is cooler and the beach is typically less crowded.

Hollywood Dog Beach is also one of Pet Junction’s favorite dog-friendly beaches in South Florida. [See our guide to the best dog-friendly beaches from Jupiter to Miami.]
