The City of Hollywood eliminated its previous daily and six-month dog beach passes and associated fees. Visitors can now use the designated dog beach without purchasing a permit.
This is important because you may still find older websites showing resident and non-resident dog beach fees. Those requirements are no longer part of the City’s current dog beach rules.
Dogs at Hollywood Dog Beach must be on a leash or under voice command while inside the designated dog beach area. Owners are responsible for controlling their dogs at all times.
Once outside the designated dog beach, dogs must be leashed.
Before heading to the beach with your pup, keep these City of Hollywood rules in mind:
Hollywood Dog Beach is an actual oceanfront dog beach, so your dog can enjoy both the sand and the Atlantic Ocean within the designated area.
There is little natural shade directly on the beach, so South Florida heat is worth planning around. Early mornings and later afternoons are usually more comfortable for dogs, especially during the summer.
Bring fresh drinking water, a bowl, waste bags and a leash. Even though dogs can be under voice command within the dog beach, you’ll need the leash when entering, leaving or walking elsewhere around Hollywood Beach.
Most of Hollywood Beach does not allow dogs on the sand. The exception is Hollywood Dog Beach between the Pershing and Custer Street lifeguard stands.
So if you’re searching for a dog-friendly beach in Hollywood, Florida, make sure you enter through the designated Hollywood Dog Beach area rather than another section of the beach.
If your dog loves the ocean, Hollywood Dog Beach is one of the easiest South Florida dog beaches to visit now that there are no admission fees, no permit and no restricted weekend-only schedule.
Going early is especially worthwhile in warmer months when the sand is cooler and the beach is typically less crowded.
