Ohhhhhh, that dreaded cat pee smell! Man, that stuff is wicked. Even a couple of drops dribbled around your floor can make your entire house smell like a bottle of ammonia! It’s terrible! And FRUSTRATING! But worry no more, we are going to find that cat pee and eliminate that smell once and for all, or at least until your feline friend has another accident.

The most important part of cleaning cat pee is finding it first. It can be difficult to track it down. The best advice I can give, after 24 years of cat ownership, is to use your sniffer. Get down on all fours and start sniffing around. That is quite literally the most effective way to find the source of it. I know that sounds like a pain, and the reason it sounds like a pain is because IT IS! But the beautiful part is, once you find it, YOU KNOW!

So now that you have found the cat pee smell, what do you do?

You get yourself a nice bottle of Nature’s Miracle, no this isn’t a sales pitch, it simply works. If you have reoccurring pet smells to clean, invest in the largest bottle you can get. It’s worth it. What you want to do is soak the area with the solution and let it sit. Let it sit. It needs to soak in and the enzymes need time to work. LET. IT. SIT.

For carpeting, soak the area fairly well so the solution makes it through the carpeting and into the padding. I can assure you, the cat pee smell made it that far. Besides, do you really want to do this more than once? No. So soak it down and let it sit. I like to let it sit for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, I sop up as much of the solution as I can with an old towel and let it air dry.

My cats are getting old and one of them seems to have a leaky bladder when she gets frightened. I had just gotten a new leather sofa and my leaky bladder baby was laying on a blanket on it. Well, she must have gotten pounced on by another cat, and boom, a piddle of pee on the blanket that ended up on my new sofa.

What to do when you have that cat pee smell on leather.

I was VERY reluctant to use Nature’s Miracle on my new sofa, however, nothing else was working so here’s what I did. I used a sponge and worked the solution into foam. After it was foamy I applied the foam to the leather and let it sit. After 10 minutes, I did it again and repeated this process until the smell was gone. I would NOT use this method on raw or untreated leather. If you can’t wipe it down with a damp cloth, DO NOT USE THIS METHOD! The last thing you want is to ruin your leather. I’m not saying it WILL ruin it, but I simply do not know.

So what about hardwood floors?

The solution seems to be extremely safe on the hardwood as I have used it plenty of times on my hardwood as well. I just pour some on a rag and wipe the floor. When it’s dry, I wipe it up with clean water, and viola, the smell is gone. I would not soak down your hardwood floors. A simple wipe-up will work.

Fabric furniture is easy, just use the same method as carpeting. Soak and sit. Sop it up after 30 minutes and you should be good to go.

So there you have it. If you want a cat pee cleaner that really works, Nature’s Miracle is a miracle worker.

As a side note, if you have multiple cats in your home and they are peeing outside of their litter box, add another litter box AND keep them clean. Cats are very clean animals and do not like dirty litter. Sometimes, they don’t even like the smell of another cat’s mess. One of my cats will NOT use the litter box at all until the litter has been cleaned in the morning. As soon as I clean that litter, he’s the first one in.

And one more side note, if that doesn’t work, use Cat Attract litter. I’ve been using it for 16 years and my cats lovvve it!

So that’s it. Fairly simple and straightforward advice for keeping your house smelling as clean as a whistle!
